Coffee Shop Spy
extract taken from Leopard magazine

Picture the scene. A rag mat sits on a carefully conserved flagstone floor in front of an old Zebo'd range complete with fender. Relics like cake tins and rolling pins, flat irons and candlesticks ornament the mantelpiece and wide window sills. The monotony of new furniture is broken by old items like the windsor chair at the fireside.

This is The Old Bakehouse in Brechin city, opposite the site of the old mercat cross. Here is warmth and charm which I always associate with well established coffee houses, achieved with a well designed interior which blends old and new.

For me it is always a joy to wander off main traffic routes. So when I spotted The Old Bakehouse in an earlier issue of Leopard magazine (where else?) my curiosity to sample it gave me just the excuse needed to abandon the A90 early one Saturday morning.

Open Monday to Saturday 10am till 5pm except Wednesday when it closes at 2pm.

RATING : 4 Cups!
